The Athens Photographic Project

In summer 2000, NAMI-Athens member Elise Sanford began the Athens Photographic Project with the support of NAMI-Athens. For over a decade, NAMI-Athens served as the fiscal agent for the APP, helping their program provide photography classes and exhibitions as a component of mental health recovery support in Southeast Ohio.

The purpose was not simply to provide “art therapy” but rather to give all students training as professional photographers. According, their work and their unique perspectives regularly result in very high quality art which has been featured in important venues outside of Athens.
