On October 22nd, 2016, NAMI Athens celebrated its sixteenth annual Walk the Walk for Mental Health Awareness. Though
the weather was damp and cold, around seventy five people participated. In addition to NAMI and Gathering Place members, there were students from Ohio University and Hocking College as well as the wider community. The Walk started on the Court House steps after comments from various dignitaries such as Mayor Steve Patterson and Representative Debbie Phillips. From there, the truly hearty did the whole walk to the Ridges and back to Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare where they joined the more numerous non-walkers for an abundant pot luck lunch. Towards the end of the lunch patients from ABH were invited to help the others finish off the pot-luck. They were also given Walk-the-Walk shirts. A great time was had by all.
