Important new techniques to prevent schizophrenia and treat previously untreatable forms of depression

In the last year, some very innovative research has led to remarkable new – and relatively simple techniques – to deal with two major disorders. First, very important to prospective parents who either suffer from or have loved ones with schizophrenia, researchers at the University of Colorado – with support of the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation – have discovered that exposing the fetus to ample doses of choline in the last stages of gestation can prevent the development of schizophrenia later in life. In addition, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have discovered a simple dietary way of treating very refractory forms of depression.
